Rules
ACF Titles that precede player's name stand for:
GM stands for Grandmaster, CGM stands for Correspondence Grandmaster -
historically, MS stands for Master,
EX stands for Expert, which are earned titles given by The American Checker Federation to distinguish a player's
knowledge and skill performance, improvement, recognition, and motivation
purposes. For information on ACF Titles, please see Bylaw XII - ACF Titles. We love our new ACF Rating System and appreciate
our programming software engineer & rating processor, Clint 0lsen from Kitchener, ON N2A0 OC1OC1 (Canada) who took on the
job in 2017 of design, creation, and
maintenance of this excellent & professional system. Our Tournament Ratings data was
pulled from this
Rating System.
Clint also serves as our ACF website administrator. When you are viewing the above 2019
score-sheet cross-tables the “ T ” separates player's opponent from player's
earned game points for that round as: Draw is 1, Win is 2 points, Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.
A forward slash “ / ” separates earned game points from accumulated
(total) game points. (F) indicates a Forfeit, (Bye) designates a 3 point Bye round, (wd) designates a Withdrawal. Time clocks,
game recorder sheets,
and extra pens were available on the
back table for those players who wanted them. All players received a
NCCA ballpoint pen as a door prize at tournament registration. All players were emailed a tournament flyer and or mailed a postcard invitation
three weeks prior to the tournament, and of course all known checker players
with an email address got a group email about the tournament with a link to
the NCCA's checker calendar.
Smith also announced, next year's 130th Annual 2020 North Carolina Open Checker Tournament
to be held on Friday and Saturday, May 15th & 16th 2020. This is in keeping with the State
Tournament dates as in the past, to be held the first weekend after Mother's Day which is the second Sunday in May.
We will announce more details later, but it won't be held at the Comfort Inn - Archdale
but at a different tournament venue. Other Announcements: The next five checker
tournaments will be Texas Open & District 8,
Missouri State,
New England & District 1,
Southern Open,
and of course you want to book your flight & room to our GAYP National in

Adjournment: Our meeting adjourned at 8:58 AM and a copy of the Financial Report, Annual Report, and Minutes are available to members on-line. We started our 2019 NC State Open Tournament at 9:00 AM in the same conference room.
We appreciated the donations and contributions, which are added to the entry fees and with our fund account withdrawal, making a total $2,500.00 tournament prize fund pay out. Again this year, Joe McDaniel graciously supported us with $300.00. We mailed Joe and Jeannie a “Thank You card” with all the players' signatures expressing our appreciation.
We appreciate Alex Moiseyev donating a hardcopy of his “Sixth” book to the highest finishing B Class player, which was won by Glenn Fuquay.
NCCA Life-Time Members are exempt of any State Tournament entry fees, one of the huge benefits of being a life-time member.
We appreciate Tim Laverty and Gayle Smith serving as our tournament directors. Gayle did a fantastic job directing, refereeing, scorekeeping, keeping the tournament on time, and prize fund pay out! Tim provided us with his “round-robin pairing scheme.”
All players who wanted a list of the 2019 NC State Open and District 4 players' addresses & emails were available from the tournament director.
Our oldest player was Buck Smith, age 88 with a birthday on March 16th, 1931 and 4 months older than Grover Minor. Our youngest player was Konstantin Kotelnikov, age 16 with a March 7, 2003 birthday.
We appreciate Gayle Smith who brought a large packed ice chest so we had plenty of water, fruit salad, salsa/cheese dip, chips, dips, veggie trays, dessert salads, cheese & crackers, etc. available throughout the tournament.
A delightful tournament & wonderful fellowship was had by all who attended.
